Radioactive Material or Hazardous Materials Decontamination Procedure Information

The Transportation Emergency Preparedness Program has several Model Procedures available for emergency response agencies. The Model Procedures are designed to help remedy procedural weaknesses that the agency has identified by conducting the TEPP Model Needs Assessment.

The purpose of Radioactive Material or Hazardous Materials Decontamination Procedure is to provide guidance for performing decontamination of individuals who have entered a “hot zone” during hazardous material incidents involving radioactive materials. This procedure provides for three decontamination options: multiple hazardous materials present without radiological instrumentation available, radioactive material only without radiological instrumentation available, and radioactive material only with radiological instrumentation available.
